PRODUCTION REGULATION

Many lives have been endangered in Nigeria as a result of the production of substandard products which have flooded the country. With little or no supervision or regulation, local producers often do what would maximize their profits, playing little attention to standards and putting lives at risk.

It is in the light of this that I prescribe that the Standard Orgarnisation of Nigeria (SON), the organ which is charged with the statutory responsibility of maintaining standards in the production sector of the economy, shall be restructured and technically enabled to standardise and regulate goods produced in Nigeria to ensure quality and safety.

The laws and regulations of the body shall be enforced to the latter while organizations and persons whose products are found to be substandard shall be penalized appropriately. The SON shall be empowered to also prosecute those that contravene its regulations.
